Roof planting

Green roofs store water in a natural way, bind dust and barely heat up even in extremes of temperature. They protect the roof waterproofing even more effectively against environmental stresses than a layer of gravel, and serve to increase service life. In many municipalities discounts on surface water drainage charges are offered for green roofs. There is an increasing tendency for roof plantings to be required in urban development plans, or at the very least recognised as a means of ecological compensation. In any case, green roofs form valuable and interesting alternative habitats for fauna and flora.

Extensive roof planting

Extensive planting systems consist of self-sufficient and predominantly low-growing plants, and are only accessed for inspection and maintenance. The objective of extensive planting is to have lightweight natural vegetation requiring minimum maintenance. Sedum species are commonly used as stock plants. Supplemented with drought-resistant herbs, sedum/herb plant communities can also be established.

Intensive roof planting

Intensive plantings with areas of lawn and plants, paths and seating areas can be designed and used like a garden. Sunbathing areas can be created, and even trees can be planted.
